Very quick to be seated for it to be a holiday weekend. Most items are quite pricey compared to other local restaurants. Not much of a selection for steaks, cut or size. My wife was going to order the crab legs but at $43.99 per pound(market price) I had to ask what type. Was told they are snow crab. For that price they should be King Crab legs. I pay $13.99 for snow crab and $24.99 for King Crab per pound. This is retail prices for crab legs. Overall service was very good and so was the food. I do think the owner should rethink the pricing and offer more of a selection on steaks.
So the 30-45min wait was to be expected, several people there and it the year of the Corona. Once we were seated the waitress came and took drink orders. Then the wait. Ok got drinks, more waiting, more waiting , lots of apologies, still no food. Finally (keep in mind the C-19 should only effect seating times. There’s half the customers and seemed to be plenty of staff. Food comes out fried shrimp and fish and chips, fryer food, fair at best. This was not the $20 fish and chips I expected and less quality than some other area restaurants who actually charged almost half. The waitress was young and very apologetic but the kitchen just isn’t doing the place any favors.
Waited nearly two hours to seat 3 people. I understand that COVID is changing things, but the guy in the front couldn’t tell us a wait time? What? We wouldn’t have hung around if we would have known it was going to take that long. Food was typical seafood and a little overpriced. Waiter was nice though.
GREAT Bloody Mary! Hubster and I stopped in for an early lunch and we were not disappointed. Light and flaky Fish and Chips, hot crispy fries, Cheese Steak sandwich were excellent. Did I mention the outstanding Bloody Mary? Miranda was wonderful too! You will not be disappointed.
Excellent food! New ownership is fabulous! Waitress was very good and attentive! That bloody Mary is incredible.....and I highly recommend! Blue claw crab appetizer is amazing! All the food was delicious!
Outstanding experience! Appreciate that all servers were wearing masks and distancing. Jalen was an excellent, attentive server. The views are awesome! The food was delicious! My crab cake was full of crab and little breading. As an OKI resident I will be returning often.
Great service, great food and great entertainment. 2nd time in. a week to go there. Try it!! Try their fish tacos.we had drinks, well poured, and blackened shrimp tacos. 2 sides included. Excellent. Will go back again. Great service.
What a breath of fresh air! Lydia was an amazing server with attention to detail. The food is incredible and flavorful. We had two appetizers of Mussels and 1 lb of old bay steamed peel and eat jumbo shrimp PERFECTLY COOKED! Well done
Shrimp burger and the black/blue chicken sandwich are 5 star. Tender, exceptionally flavorful and generous portions!
BEST CRAB CAKES EVER! Drove over and hour just to eat here again.
Positivity for the quality of service & our drinks. There was no hostess to greet/seat us so we sat ourselves at the bar. Brian was our bartender; he was personable & had a nice energy. The Bloody Mary was delicious. However, the food quality was less than impressive. The shrimp tacos weren’t what I was expecting in that they didn’t have much flavor. They mostly tasted like cold shrimp & grass due to the slaw. I ate two bites out of the entire entree and I made the bartender aware of my disappointment. I should have explicitly asked to have my entree removed from the bill, but I assumed I didn’t have to blatantly ask (I was wrong.) My husband also mentioned after his first taste test of his fish & chips that he could tell the fryers hadn’t been cleaned; he’s a chef so he empathizes with how dirty they get in a single shift so he didn’t say anything. All in all, the seafood is extremely fresh but the overall experience was disappointing.
Was really nice the extra mile the management and staff took for sociall distancing. Food was good. Drinks were excellent as was the service.
Great atmosphere and food. Our server was super friendly and very informative. We can't wait to try it during daylight hours. The view seems like a good one.
Such an amazing experience. The food was amazing and the staff was ever better. Natasha was our waitress and she was very personable and knowledgeable. Will definitely come again!
Pros: Restaurant is very nice and quiet. Wait staff was pleasant and helpful. Cons: service was extremely slow for tacos and a sandwich an hour plus wait. Bread on Shrimp PoBoy was cooked to death almost like a crouton. Texas caviar with the Tacos was bland and flavorless but the Tacos were outstanding.
First time there horrible experience. Took an hour to get our food. Bug in salad. Wife had a raw hamburger. Friend had a raw ribeye sandwich. My food was cold. Complained to manager who gave us only 20% off. Manager was very defensive. Maybe just a one time bad experience l. Sorry but I’ll never go there again.
Service and food was good...better than the first visit when they first opened. One complaint...the draft beer I had was $7.50 for a pint...granted it was a NC Premium IPA...other restuarants not on the water would and have charged 5.50 or 6 for the same. Basically paying for the view.
The food was great. Very clean. Great staff. Nice options on the menu. I'm definitely going back.
Very good food! Got our order to go. No complaints here.
The menu is awesome! Spectacular views. We went two days in a row for lunch, the blackened mahi mahi tacos were the best I’ve had other than in Key West. The crab dip is excellent as well. Our server was Christian, very knowledgeable with the menu and details of preparation. He was also very personable and attentive to when we needed more drinks etc. he definitely contributed to our overall experience!
Love eating here! Love the key lime pie and chocolate cheesecake! My daughter has severe allergies, they were very attentive to her. Could not have been more pleased with the service! Ate here again on June 5. Loved it will be back more. Couldn’t help it had the fried shrimp and seafood Mac!
Our family of six has dined on takeout from Rusty Hooks multiple times in the past two weeks because everyone has found a favorite item on the menu. My wife and I love the crab cakes, the boys dig the Mahi tacos, the girls like the Caesar salad with shrimp or tuna — and everyone digs into the fried pickles or fries. On each visit, the food was perfectly cooked and served by the owners themselves who take pride in every single aspect of the establishment. If you come to Oak Island or Southport, Rusty Hooks is a must for your dinner out!
We went to dinner here with a party of 8 this Saturday. After ordering, we waited an hour and fifty-five minutes for our meal. No drinks, appetizers, or meals were comped. No discounts offered or given. When we asked to see the manager, she was rude and entirely unhelpful. What she stated was her sympathy due to the delay on the kitchen’s part came across as condescension. It also turned out she was the owner, and her question was whether we would return to her restaurant if she were to comp anything since she did not think we would. The food was below average for this area. The management was poor. But I will say, our server was top notch. And the manager was correct about one thing, we will not be returning.
The food was good, get the crab cakes, atmosphere awesome, and staff really friendly
Great place to eat great food but the staff is amazing came in a few days ago and my server jaden I think was his name was amazing, other staff was so nice also
One of the best restaurants around. It's a little pricey, but definitely worth it. The seafood fritters and cajun seafood pasta were amazing. Customer service was outstanding as well.
Ordered multiple appetizers, after some arrived was told out of seafood fritters so we ordered mussels which came out with closed shells, was offered knife to pry open which we found were raw. Ordered Pepsi to drink, got first round then was told ran out. Ordered two rib eye steak dinners which were clearly sirloin steaks. Tomato on one sandwich had black area on. Also was out of two draft beers. Only positive was the server alexis which she kept apologizing for everything. And $13 for a small mixed drink.... ridiculous. the host could not give us a wait time either. We will not be returning
The food is amazing. The burger was one of the best I've ever had and ive never had better fish and chips. It was so fresh and delicious and the view is amazing. If you go there you have to eat on the deck it made the experience.
Loved the food, loved the service. Would highly recommend
Love the food, we were a group of 8 and had something for everyone. Being from MD I can vouch for the crab soup. Fried pickles were memorable.
I'll miss Dead End Saloon but this place is great. Awesome food with an awesome view. One of my favorite local restaurants and anchored by the Capps clan.
This place has a pretty good view. For the most part the food was good but really expensive. I would definitely go back, this was one the nicer restaurants I've been too.
Excellent food and great service. Best shrimp in the area!
Quality food, fair prices...enjoyed the parking lot live band outside overlooking harbor
Excellent dinner with my love. A very nice Sunset as well. I highly recommend this establishment!
Bartender (who was our server) was awesome! Other than that it was just okay. Hostess ignored us upon arrival we were seated at a small table after asking a waitress if we were to seat ourselves. Portions were small, and the food was bland. View of the water was nice, but overall would not recommend!
Good food, great views, excellent service, especially from our server, Lydia. Worth the wait for the food. Fresh fish!
Food was good and service was good. You will be happy, but may want to request a “double” on your mixed drink. The amount of food was plentiful!
Good food, a little pricey, very good service and a great view on the intracoastal.
Great service. A bit more pricey but great views. Only had a drink and appetizers. But will definitely go back for dinner. But we have to go soon cause once the tourist are here you won't get near the place. Parking is tight.
OMG!!!! I ordered the appetizers: mussels, clams, and crab dip and it was simply the BEST SEAFOOD I'VE EVER HAD!!!! wow!!!! Worth the wait, anytime! Quite frankly the best seafood in the area!
Delicious food! Friendly staff! Wonderful location!
I’m a sort of part-time local and I’ve been here a couple of times. On days when it is kinda slow and not a ton of people, the servers are also a little slow. But the food is good! My favorite is the buffalo chicken salad and it is very good! A nice place with a beautiful view and the servers are very polite.
Food was mediocre. Service from the waiter's and waitresses was good. Management needs to learn how to manage; incredibly incompetent. Food was WAYYYY over priced. $2 for an extra slice of cheese, but can't afford table umbrellas for customers eating outside in the rain??? Seriously?? The view was nice. Nothing to write home about. You're better off going to a hole in a wall spot on the beach.
Fantastic food, portions where amazing, great hospitality. Had to go back the next day for lunch too. Beautiful view. Food was totally out of this world!!
We had a great lunch Mahi was fresh and great I had the po boy shrimp it was a lot of good
Have Sydney serve you!!!! Pretty young lady with alot of wit! Try the cajun pasta because it was AWESOME!!!
Came in for lunch today. We accidentally came early at 11:15 (they open at 1130). Our fault! Owner let us in and we were promptly served our beers. Our waiter Chris was amazing! Quick and delicious food! Fresh and local seafood. The view is unmatched in my opinion, we even saw a shrimp boat go by. We will be back !!
